Happy New Year! I have not had a program since two weeks before Christmas! It was a nice break, but I am ready to get back to it. Our first storytime of 2017 is about penguins! Did you know a group of penguins is called a waddle? How adorable is that?
- Penguin Pete’s New Friends by Marcus Pfister (Pete wants to be treated like a grown up, but can’t manage to stay on track. We also get to meet other polar animals.)
- Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester (This has to stand as one of my favorite books about penguins! Tacky is an odd bird, but a good bird.)
- Little Penguin’s Tale by Audrey Wood (Little Penguin learns a valuable lesson!)
- A Penguin Story by Antoinette Portis (Contrasting colors are the basis of the illustrations in this book, which is great for toddlers! Penguin is longing for something more—will he find it?)
Puffy Penguins: My toddlers use the cut out and just glue cotton balls on his belly. It is a great sensory activity!
Shape Penguins: I got the idea for this craft off of Pinterest—what would we ever do without Pinterest? Using a big black oval, big white heart, three little orange hearts and goggle eyes, you can make an awesome looking penguin!
This lesson plan is free and you have my permission to use it all you want. I just ask that you give me a little love by crediting me on any blog or social media post. Thank you!
