Storytime Theme: Author Spotlight on Mo Willems

When I told kids about it being Mo Willems week, I heard more than once, “MO WILLEMS????  I LOVE MO WILLEMS!!!!!!”  The man is a rock star, ok?

Books:

  • Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!
  • Knuffle Bunny
  • That is NOT a Good Idea!
  • The Duck Gets a Cookie?

CDs Used:  Jim Gill: Jim Gill sings The Sneezing Song & Other Contagious Tunes / Laurie Berkner: Victor Vito   (Because there just aren’t any Mo Willems songs out there!  So we played some of my favorites from my own collection!)

Activity:

Pigeon Plates: Kids ripped blue tissue paper and glued to a small paper plate.  They added an eye and beak to get Pigeon himself!  Next, they cut out the bus from the book and put it on a popsicle stick.  Now poor Pigeon will NEVER drive that bus!  (And thank you to the random blogger on Pinterest whose name I could not find and who had this idea first!  I did add the bus puppet though)

Songs/Fingerplays:

Again, not many songs I could use, but I did personalize this one with the pigeon!
